Sometimes fate has a way of intervening. I am a very new spinner, at the time of this writing, and I had a list of ideas running through my brain for color combinations. I mostly had a lot of ideas thinking of different color combinations in nature. One that kept coming to mind was a Peacock.

I had ordered some roving samples from Sheps Wool on a recommendation of a friend. The product is called SPINNING FELTING FIBER WOOL -MIXED TOP AND ROVING BAG- 12 OZ. It is just a random bag of wool samples and roving ends, and you have no idea what you are going to get. I had also ordered some Peacock colored Angelina from The Woolery. I received some assorted greens and purples from Sheps, I had another mill end sample bag from Amazon with green and blue silks, and the Angelina. I still didn’t have any bright blue that looked like a Peacock.

When my Ashford Country Spinner 2 wheel arrived, there was a small sample bag of wool included, and low and behold: Blue.

I had all of the pieces of the puzzle on chance, so it was time to start carding fiber, and making my Peacock yarn.

First, I ran it all through my Ashford Drunm Carder, and pulled the batt into roving. I didn’t get a photo of this.

Then, I spun it up into a single and plyed it back on itself to make a beautiful double.

I am not a spinning expert, yet. However, I really like how this yarn turned out. And I will likely update with a specific recipe for how to make it in the future. This time it was just random samples all combined. However, I now have a basis to perfect my formula.
